Highlight at AACR: GPT-4 and gene-drug interactions
Michael's presentation at the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) Annual Meeting 2024 has been selected as a highlight by the NCI Division of Cancer Biology (DCB; @NCICancerBio). In this study, we prototyped an efficient and accurate GPT-4 tool for analyzing gene-drug interactions through scientific literature in collaboration. shinyDeepDR is a user-friendly tool designed for predicting anti-cancer drug sensitivity using deep learning. With the tool, users can effortlessly perform an in silico screening of 265 approved and investigational compounds by uploading mutation and/or gene expression data from a cancer sample. DepLink is a web server to identify genetic and pharmacologic perturbations that induce similar effects on cell viability or molecular changes. It integrates heterogeneous datasets of genome-wide CRISPR screens, high-throughput drug screens, and gene expression signatures of perturbations. Read the article.
BHI is the flagship conference of the IEEE-EMBS (IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society) and serves as a unique forum for informatics and computing in healthcare and life sciences. We organized the Educational Activities including tutorials, panels, and student travel awards supported by the NSF and the NIH.

12/2023. Our new tool, shinyDeepDEP, is available for open testing! shinyDeepDEP is a user-friendly web tool designed to prioritize genetic dependencies in cancer using our DeepDEP deep learning model.
10/2023. Dr. Chiu serves as an Organizing Committee Member and the Educational Activity Co-chair at the IEEE-EMBS International Conference on Biomedical and Health Informatics (BHI) in Pittsburgh, PA.
9/2023. Dr. Chiu receives an R03 award from the NIH Office of the Director to collaborate with Dr. Yinan Gong (MPI) to study therapeutic strategies by modulating immune surveillance adaptation!

9/2023. Dr. Chiu has been nominated by the University of Pittsburgh for the Searle Scholars Program, which recognizes exceptional young faculty in the biomedical sciences and chemistry.
7/2023. Dr. Chiu receives a two-year New Investigator Research Grant from the Leukemia Research Foundation to develop intelligent therapeutic strategies for acute myeloid leukemia.
